Poison and disease are different attacks, but they are defended under the same defense. Likewise burning and acid are different attacks, but they are defended under the same defense. This only makes a difference under the rare cases that something is immune to one type of attack (e.g. a fire-breathing dragon's immunity to fire) but not the other.
The multiplying factor are the dice added to that offense or defense. A x2 means two additional dice are rolled in addition to the offensive or defensive dice roll they already have. A x4 would mean four additional dice are rolled.
