Criminal

Criminals are those who choose to use their talents and abilities to earn money in ways that are generally considered unlawful, often because they provide no valuable service and are even sometimes detrimental to an individual, community, or society.

Thief

There are many types of thieves. For the purpose of this profession, these are thieves that operate in urban areas and case the establishment being robbed in order to plan and execute a heist to steal money or valuables that can be sold for money. Sometimes robberies have to be performed with less than optimal planning, but normally it isn't just a spur of the moment thing, even when it is rushed. Thieves are generally proficient in getting into places that have some sort of security and are adept at disarming traps, avoiding pits, and generally not getting themselves killed while putting themselves in danger frequently. Although they don't want to fight, they generally will if cornered.

Bandit

Bandits are thieves operating in wilderness areas. Unlike a thief, who would case the location they are robbing from, bandits generally scout out the best area for hiding in ambush for whoever is unlucky enough to come along, Thieves go to the prize to be stolen, Bandits wait for the prize to come to them. They generally prefer to steal from range rather than in a melee situation, but they aren't unfamiliar with having to fight hand-to-hand if needed. Bandits aren't generally known for their bravery, however, and will run if they are severely outnumbered.

Fence

The fence is who a thief goes to to sell jewelry, paintings, and other valuables they've collected during a heist. The fence knows of people willing to purchase stolen merchandise. A fence generally has a cover job in another legitimate field, often as a merchant, so the skills, attributes, and knowledge listed below is usually in addition to whatever profession they're using as a cover. Fences double the value of any gems, jewelry, or art items when sold.

Conman

Conmen spin a good story on why a person should part with their hard-earned money for whatever they are peddling. They are masters at manipulation and are hard to be, themselves, manipulated in turn. They generally don't know much about things, other than whatever they've decided to make-up, but they do know people… very well.

Pickpocket

A pickpocket is an opportunist thief, rather than one who plans out his heist in advance. They are good at identifying the best individuals to pickpocket, whether it's for an easy score or because they actually have something of value on their person. While they never generally have a large payday, they sometimes have enough small paydays over a series of pockets picked to make themselves wealthy nonetheless. Pickpockets generally flee quickly rather than fight. About the only thing a pickpocket really plans beforehand is their escape route.

Beggar

Although some beggars are able to make a better living off the handouts others drop in their hats than a hard-working job in one of the crafts, a person would rarely choose this lifestyle unless forced to do so due to injury or some other problem. Life on the street has generally taken a toll, so beggars generally don't have great health.

Although they are generally very fast as children, this doesn't normally translate into speed for an adult who grew up on the streets if the character's current profession requires less running around.
