This section treats the word medicine rather loosely when it comes to medieval times. Alchemists, for example, might have created potions of healing, but they also might have created explosive or deadly concoctions, depending on what was needed at the time.

Alchemists are able to perform arcane acts using potions, tinctures, oils, salves, or powders they have developed.

The apothecary is, in a sense, an alchemist almost exclusively dealing with medicines and herbs.

A doctor is someone with knowledge of medicines and herbs and how they affect the human anatomy. They are generally fairly insightful when it comes to reading people to understand their ailments.

Surgeons are doctors who specialize in surgery. They generally rely on perception and coordination rather than insight in performing their surgeries to the greatest success.

Midwives are generally called upon to deliver babies in their community and neighboring communities. They have understanding of the medicine, herbs, and anatomy required for successfully delivering babies and a great insight into the women they are assisting in childbirth.

The medicine woman is a person in tribal and rural communities who acts as the doctor for the area without having any formal training in such. The knowledge is usually passed down in verbal format and by assisting the previous person in the position and though much of the knowledge might be archaic and questionable in nature, it generally does work, to some degree.
